Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) researches the interactions between psychological factors, the nervous system and the immune system. In the last 50 years, a number of significant findings have been published on the effect of very different methods to reduce stress-associated factors (e.g. conditioning of the immune system, immunological effect of hypnosis). However, the PNI of sound massage has hardly been studied to date. We believe that PNI investigation of complex procedures is linked to research designs that can also capture complexity. Results from so-called integrative single case studies are presented and discussed.
