Since 1997, full professor at the most famous institution of higher learning for music in Europe, the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg.

Teacher and engineering graduate in Physical Technology. In many years of research and practical application he developed the Peter Hess-sound massage which is the basis for the Peter Hess-sound methods. He is founder and head of the Peter Hess Institut and is chairman of the Europäischer Fachverband für Klang-Massage-Therapie e.V., the European professional association. Three research periods in the USA were decisive for the further scientific work of Manfred Spitzer at the interface between neurobiology, experimental psychology and psychiatry: in 1989/90 he was Visiting Associate Professor for Psychology at Harvard University, followed by Visiting Scientist for Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Oregon in 1992, and Visiting Full Professor for Clinical Psychology, again at Harvard University, in 1994.
